It is not very often that a person gets married. In fact, everyone hope to marry just once and stay happy in that marriage for the lifetime. So it becomes all the more important that this once-in-a-lifetime affair is cherished, recorded and kept safe for posterity. For a couple about to be wedded there are hundreds of factors to be planned, arranged and materialised. And, wedding photography is one major element in that long list.

Well, come to think of it, not everybody is an expert in photography, especially wedding photography. And of course, the couple cannot keep checking whether all the pictures taken are good. To be on the safe side they can do a few things prior to the wedding and make the necessary arrangements with a professional wedding photographer. Here are a few tips that can help you get your wedding photos perfect and unique. Decide the style of photography you want With the different styles of wedding photography currently prevalent, it is important that the couple decide before hand which style they want.

They can choose a professional photographer who is an expert in that style, whether it is traditional style that involves a lot of 'sit-still poses' with the couple as well as their families and friends, photojournalistic style that comprises the 'narration' of the whole events where the photos are taken without making others conscious about it or contemporary style that involved curious angles and interesting backgrounds and poses.

Get to know your photographer Different photographers have different styles. When you choose a professional wedding photographers get to know them better. You might have found them through recommendations from a friend or through browsing the net. Just because they did a great job for your friend it is not necessary yours will also turn out well. Hence, check some of the other wedding photos they have taken. Discuss with them what style you want, where you want the photos to be taken, how many photos you want, how much they charge, etc.

Visit the location Taking a look at the location where you want the wedding to take place and the photos to be taken would be a good idea. You can find a few poses there as well as check whether the place and its atmosphere are as you expected. You'll find how the light would fall and how each corner would look in the photos. If necessary you can take a few test photos here that can be a good addition to the engagement photos.

Choose a photo director With the wedding ceremony in progress, you can hardly expect to take care of how the photo session is going on. Also, you can't expect the photographer you've chosen to know each of your relatives and friends and bring them to pose for the photos. Hence, it's better that you choose a family member or a close friend to coordinate the photography. That person can bring together the people who should be photographed with you and get things move faster. Have a proper back up There are many instances where the wedding ceremony got spoiled because the photographer didn't turn up at the right time. Make sure it doesn't happen to you. Hence, have a second camera ready with you. Keep its batteries charged and memory cards empty.

The advantage with digital cameras is that the photos will look good even if an amateur take them. Also, it'll be a good idea to have a second photographer in mind just in case. You can even choose any of your relatives or friends who have a good camera knowledge. Make a list of shots you want One thing that the couple can do prior to the wedding is prepare a list of the photos you want and give it to the photographer. This way during the event there are no confusions and waste of time. As each picture is taken they can be checked off. This way, wedding photography can be made a lot simpler, faster and less chaotic.

Last but not the least, look happy and have fun Wedding photos are not meant to make a portfolio for a modelling career. Hence, make sure you don't look stiff in the attempt to look good. Of course, on your wedding pictures you have to look good. But wedding is more about happiness and fun. Hence, be happy and keep smiling while the snaps are taken (and beauty will automatically follow). Even if you look funny in some of them it is alright. Years later funny images are more cherished than posing ones.
