Performing a broad selection of songs you'll know and love from the Swing era - from Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller through to songs hits Mr Bojangles & Bad Bad Leroy Brown,  plus foot stomping Rhythm & Blues / Jazz.  The show is performed by Five Star Swing - an eight-piece band containing three multi-instrumentalists / vocalists and lead by Chris & Simone Smith. Chris, who's varied career has taken him from Jazz festivals to Top of the Pops , uses his experience gained in playing and writing for Glenn Miller's Brother (Herb Miller) to bring the songs to life. Saxophonist and vocalist, Simone, has performed with the New Squadroniares and played Lead Alto Saxophone in the later days of the Ivy Benson show band.  The show has a great appeal for all age groups and so far have all been a sell-out !

 

Be entertained with hits from the Rat Pack, Glenn Miller and  Ella Fitzgerald plus the foot -stomping best of Jazz & Blues - Jools Holland style. This versatile and accomplished Swing Band recreates the exciting sound of the big band days, featuring five saxophones, male and female vocalists, multi-instrumentalists and dynamic rhythm section.

Chris’s compositions and arrangements are frequently played by Jazz  FM, Capital Radio, B.B.C Radio

Big Band and of course Five Star Swing!  As a Piano/Trumpet player, Chris has appeared on B.B.C breakfast T.V, Top Of The Pops, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and The Royal Variety  Show.  He has toured extensively with the Herb Miller Orchestra (Glenn’s Brother), as well as Jazz festivals throughout the world.

Review

The Radlett Centre, was pulsating to the stylish sounds of the "Swing 'n' Sinatra" show last Sunday. The Show, performed by "Five Star Swing", played to a packed house. The enthusiastic audience gave them a very warm welcome despite the icy weather on the night.

    A polished performance was given by the 8-piece band led by Chris Smith, playing an excellent mix of well known songs from Glenn Miller, Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald to Rhythm & Blues, (Jools Holland style).  The dynamic 5-piece Saxophone section recreated the toe - tapping sound of the swing era.

Swing'n Into Town

Hertfordshire based musicians, Chris and Simone Smith, have teamed up with the Gordon Criag Theatre, Stevenage ,

to present an evening of "Swing 'n' Sinatra" on Sunday 14th, May (7.45pm). Featuring their band Five Star Swing, the show contains a host of classic Big Band / Swing songs from artists such as Frank Sinatra & Glenn Miller through to Rhythm 'n' Blues.

      Simone, who sings and plays lead Alto Saxophone in the band,  has also played with prestigious artists such as Paul Weller, John Williams,  Ivy Benson Show Band and a Saxophone solo on the Paul Merton T.V show.  Chris (Bandleader) also sings,  plays Trumpet & Piano and  is well known in the Jazz world for his arrangements and compositions frequently played on Jazz FM and BBC Radio 2. His varied career includes performances on - Top of the Pops, Breakfast TV with Herb Miller (Glenn Miller's brother) and a solo performance on the Michael Cain film "Silver Bears".

    Chris Says, " Its great that there's a strong resurgence in Jazz and Swing music enjoyed by all generations, mainly thanks to artists such as Robbie Williams Jamie Cullam and West Life. I've been brought up with this style of music as my father (Chris Smith Snr) plays trombone professionally and performed with Frank Sinatra on his last tour. We're looking forward to bringing swing music back to town."
