The Station Hotel - Killingworth 6th Feb 2009

Wow, what can I say, fantastic, unbelievable, remarkable, astonishing? All words that could be used to describe tonights performance by our very own Reet Hot Chilli Peppers.

A set list which covered most of the Chillis career whilst avoiding the obscure, was expertly presented by four guys who obviously are devoted to their art.

Special mention for Mark L, depping for a certain Mr K. Bucket, who pulled off Mr Balzary's basslines with such calm aplomb that said Mr Bucket may wish to extend his winter holiday by a further nine months or so (ooh er controversial or what eh).

Adas on the drums had perhaps the hardest act to follow, given the monumental range and rhythm of the original RHCP's Mr Smith's drum performance, but pulled it off with alarming ease. Who knows what noise this particular gentleman could be responsible for, given one or two more drums

Jonny on guitar thrashed that poor sunburst strat to an inch of its extinction and displayed an alarming mastery of Mr Frusciante's work to the point where one wonders if he shouldn't get out a little more......

And as to the vocalist 'Mark' aka Anthony Kiedis, I can only echo what Junie from Flathill Promotions said in her review of the Reet Hot's Darlo gig and say that I too "heard ' Anthony Kiedis' sing in tune for the first time last night"

What an awesome night. Guinness at 2.70 a pint, RHCP's greatest hits played live by an awesome set of musicians and to cap it all, Mrs JPJ enjoyed it to, commenting on how nice it was to hear something different from the usual pub band fare.

All I can say is catch these guy's sometime soon, you won't be disappointed.

The Forum - Darlington, 5th December 2008

I have seen the ' REAL' RHCP 3 times, and have never come away from 1 of their gigs buzzing like I am from seeing this totally amazing tribute to them. It's the first time I have seen The Reet Hots so I didn't know what to expect, but I was totally blown away by the musiciansmanship and awesome stage presence from these 4 luverly lads, They pulled it off to a tee.

We had a fantastic crowd who were loving every minute of it, and were shouting their name and stamping their feet to bring them back on stage for 2 encores.

So its an 11/10 from yours truly - A perfect night, a perfect crowd and a totally awesome band, who helped me a lot with the promo for this gig, I appreciate that so much guy's thank you, what promoter could ask for more eh

PS: - Don't tell them as I wouldn't want their heads to swell but I would rather see THEM than the 'real' RHCP again anyday and I heard ' Anthony Kiedis' sing in tune for the first time last night too, great stuff

The Duke of Cumberland - Felling, 3rd Oct 2008

I'd been promising to see the North East's tribute to RHCP for ages , so when I found out they were gigging on a night I wasn't I headed over.

The Reet's are Adas on the drums, Johnny on guitar, Boundy on the vox and Kev 'Bucket' Charlton on bass.

What you get is one long set of all The Chili Peppers classics , including Higher Ground, Dani California, Give It Away, Californication, Scar Tissue etc etc, and it's all played to a great standard.

Adas at the back is now only in 97 bands including The Rawmones and Roots Radicals, yet he manages to fit all these in around his 'catalogue modelling ' and 'Tattoo monthly' modelling career.

Despite this busy life he's a great drummer. Last night showed his ability off to perfection. Bill on sound duties had a great mix and the drums powered through nicely. He was a lot busier (if sometimes slower) than with his other bands and showed how good he really is.

He was enjoying himself a lot.

Of course no Chili's band coudl do it without a 'Flea'. Last night Kev used plecs, fingers, slaps , tickles...everything and he played 'Flea's parts to perfection. He is generally regarded as one of the best bassists in the area and last night simply confirmed this.

Johnny on guitar is the youngest in the band. He provides the backing vocals essential to that authentic Chili sound.

He has the style and sound of the various lead guitarists that have been in the Peppers over the years. He enjoys it a lot (as you can see by the 'lying down photo)and some of teh backing vox were spot on.

That leaves Mark aka Boundy on vocals. Now I didn't even know Boundy was a chanter. I used to know him as the 'sound engineer' for Vertigo Neu2....but he has many talents and showed off some of them tonight.

How the heck he remembers all those words is beyond me. As you know (if you've ever listened to RHCP) there's a great deal of 'rapping' with like a thousand words a minute...Boundy does this spot on. And there's not one single 'crib' sheet anywhere..

There was a canny turn out and the band recieved deserved applause, especially from a young man who must be the drunkest Chili Peppers fan ever...

Mark had not been well, having caught a 'bug' from his family (the buggas!!! ). He gave it 110% all the way through the one mammoth set. By the time the set finished he actually threw up....that's dedication!!!

I would always vote in favour of a 20 minute break if the show is 2 hours. It gives people, especially the singer, a chance to catch his breath...but that's just me.

The Reet Hot Chili Peppers are well worth seeing. Their ability is excellent, the song choice (if you like RHCP) very entertaining.

The sound mix was good (especially the drums).

They're still relatively new but have a busy schedule ahead. I would definitely try and catch them again...well maybe next week at Justin Time!!!!!

Dave Lunn (Sabbath tribute singer and web reviewer)

I love the Chilis and thought the whole band were superb back to front. If I had to give a man of the match award then Adas would just edge it for what I can only describe as playing of a Stadium Rock standard. Excellent band and I would recommend anyone going to see them.

Mick Conroy (Powerage guitarist)

"Geet Funky Like"

So many bands, so little time.... such is the dilemma for a live music addict like me. As you can imagine, I have a 'to do' list as long as my arm, and as the Duke was somewhere I hadn't been in a while it was well overdue a visit. A nice pub with the well respected Micky from Powerage sorting out the bands, the Duke has long been a stalwart on the local scene - even if it were better when they still had two rooms.

The Reet Hot Chilli Peppers were a band I had wanted to see for a long time, especially considering how quickly they have built up such an excellent reputation. Cant Stop and Dani California got things rolling and went down a storm even if there were a few less people here then I had expected, most probably due to there being so many high profile gigs this weekend. We really are spoilt for choice in the North East.

Front man Mark is superb. He has the look just right, moves well and is astoundingly similar vocally. If some horrible tragedy should occur, Mark could get that gig standing on his head! Fighting off the lurgy that was running through his family, he still put on a quality performance - even if by his own admission he was struggling a little on a couple of songs midway through the set. Like someone once said, "The show must go on" so just like a footballer running off an injury he sang his way through it and 2 numbers later was back on fine form. The way he dealt with a very pissed young lad at the front had to be seen - getting him up to sing a few lines and then skillfully fending off later when the enthusiasm became a little too intrusive. On the whole an excellent performance from a guy who I spoke to at length and found to be very genuine.

Guitarist Jonny used to play in Free tribute Heavy Load. While I didn't get a chance to spend any real time getting to know him, I thought his performance tonight was rock solid and he especially shone on some of the more subtle tunes. Wittily introduced by Mark as being "Nutty as squirrel shit", bass man Kev is also a legendary Zinc Bucket and just perfect as Flea - never still and interacting superbly with drummer Adas.

What can I tell you about Adas? Well firstly I used to know him when we were in our late teens so I hadn't seen this guy in over 20 years, and he was already a class act on the drums back then. To quote Micky, his playing tonight was "Stadium class". As a guy who has been around the music scene a long time and currently plays in three bands, it's not surprising that Adas is a master percussionist. For a bloke I first heard playing such a long time ago, experience has matured his playing to a point where I could both watch and listen to him all night.

Not as knowledgeable on the Chilli's back catalog as I should be - only really knowing the most popular songs, it was great to hear such a wide ranging setlist. Just as a tribute should, the guys cover all stages of the band's career and brought out some of the classics. My highlight of the night had to be 'Suck My Kiss' - superbly performed and bouncy as hell, kicking things up a notch and bringing the set to a close with the excellent Stevie Wonder cover Higher Ground and mega-hit By The Way. Encore demands were answered by a beautifully intimate performance of Under The Bridge and the guys poured every last ounce of energy into a triumphant Give It Away, ending to much deserved roars of approval.

A thoroughly enjoyable gig and one band I can't wait to see again. The Reet Hot Chilli Peppers are - as one punter said, "Geet funky like".

The Conchie - Ashington, 16th May 2008

great night at the conchie tonight, the reet hot chilli peppers were spot on, one of the best tribute bands i have ever seen. thank you good night -

UNKNOWN

I'm Not the biggest RHCP fan but the Reets feckin rock.....tremendous show last night to a well attended Conchie...

Not the easiest band to emulate but the lads had it sorted......Adas and Kev laid down some fantastic grooves, Kev is the ultimate showman and has Flea off to a T, he's never still and jumps all over the shop, never missing a note, great to watch. First time I've seen Adas playing and he's a fantastic drummer with light and shade in his rythyms, then there's John on guitar, some real edgy playing and choppy style that fits in perfectly with Kev, and lastly but by no means least is Mr Boundy on vocals who professed to having a sore throat blah blah.......tw@t never missed a thing all night...

Excellent gig, the boys had smiles on their fyess's all night long and looked as if they were having a ball...

Anyway a deffo for everyone to check out...

SANDY - (Rockerfella)

Excellent night, went for a coupla pints and stayed to the end. Coolest drummer ever, KevB faultless, fine guitar playing and tone and for not feeling well the vox were spot-on.

The band went down well too, nice to see a few younger faces in rather than the usual rock zombies.

BOB (The Poorboys)

The Grange - Sunderland, 24th April 2008

Great night at the Grange last night for the Reet Hot Chili Peppers. It was only their 2nd outing but you wouldn't have known.

I'd been wanting to see this band having been mates with most of the band for a while now and although the Chili's sound is unique in itself and really hard to replicate I thought they did a bliddy fine job.All the Chili's classics were in there from the likes of By the Way,Throw away your Television,Dani California,Other Side,Universally Speaking,Parallel Universe,Under The Bridge,Give it away,Californication,Higher Ground and loads more.....

Mark on Vocals fitted right into the role of Anthony Keidis.I'd heard him sing before but it was from the NEU2 days and I have to say he's tons better. He was rapping away like a goodun and looked very authentic.Great job.

Adas on the drums was tight as a nuns chuff all night keeping it solid with Kev on the bass.A mighty impressive rhythm section. The Flea/chad combination is the tightest unit in the world IMO but the lads totally did it justice.Hat's off to ya's.

Jonny on Guitar seemed to be totally in his comfort zone letting rip with some really funky Frusciante guitar riffs and backing vocals.A great player and a good lad too.

A brilliant night overall and if you haven't seen these lads yet.Get yassells along and catch them. You won't be disapointed.
